Vintage Silk, 1920s to the 1980s, stands the test of time!
I believe this is a Chinese Qing dynasty wedding Silk Skirt, late 19th Century. I will have to do more research, but if anybody knows anything, please feel free to comment.

I also have a robe that has embroidered flowers, but it doesn't match this one. It isn't in the best shape. Two other items I have that are in way better condition are a Silk Embroidered Kimono Robe and a pare of drawstring pants, with Embroidered Dragons. I will be posting these soon.
This super fabulous 1920s (or maybe even earlier) Silk Evening Jacket is just in the best condition for something this old. Ok, the lining is tattered, but only up in the shoulder area. I believe this to be from hanging on a hanger for 90 years or more.
It could use a cleaning, but The Jacket itself is just wrinkled, but stunning. It is a low double breast jacket with a one button closure. A huge black 1 1/2 inch button that might be Bakelite! There is also a draping scarf that could be worn a number of ways and there are 3 tuxedo stripes. One on each side and one in the back.
This jacket is from James McCreery & Co. The department Store in New York City that was located on 11th and Broadway. The Cast Iron Building built in 1869 still stands but the mansard roof has been removed and a more modern modified top has replaced it's beautiful architectural details.
In 1874, The New York Times published an article about the Grand Department Store. Once I have the lining replace, and the Jacket cleaned, I will go ahead and make a decision whether or not to keep this stunning jacket.
Also waiting in the wings are 2 beautiful Silk Damask dresses from Hong Kong made by Royal Lynne. Sleeveless, with roses and circular geometrical designs. Both come with there original belts and have 2 pockets at the hip with Frog closures.
I bought these two dresses together and they are identical.
Oh, and they both have metal zippers up the back. These two beauties are possibly from the 1950s or early 1960s.

Last, I have a lovely Silk Dress from the 1980's, Red with a band of abstract art around the midriff, that is full of colors. They are Black, Teal, Gold, Purple and Chartreuse.
All these peices are in such great condition and buying silk is truly an investment. Silk garments will provide Longevity for your wardrobe, lustrous beauty and wonderful benefits as well. Here are some facts about silk.
- Silk being a natural protein structure, it is the most hypoallergenic of all fabrics. Which, is a good reason to use for bedding. Silk naturally repels mildew, mold and dust mites.
- An all-climate fabric, Silk is highly absorbent. It can absorb perspiration while letting your skin breathe in the Summer months, keeping you cool and keeps your body warm in the winter by eliminating air pockets. Also, great as a as a second layer, it warms without being bulky.
- Silk is relatively robust. It resists soil and odors well, is wrinkle and tear resistant, and dries quickly.
- It is the strongest natural fiber and very durable but should be keept away from natural sunlight. Some Silk can be machine washed (if labeled) using gentle soap and water or hand washed.
- Calms the body- allowes the body to refresh and rejuvenate while sleeping in silk pajamas or bedding.
- Luxurious and Sensuous feel, ..oh and it looks Fabulous Too!!!
So, you can see that even though Silk has been around for thousands of years, it is still one of the best fabrics around today, especially (in my opinion) if they are Vintage!
